WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — Participants in the 12 teams having fun in the Curl for a Cure Funspiel held at the Cobden Curling Club raised $3,700 this past weekend.
Besides curling, there was a silent auction table and a turkey supper served at the finale of the event. There was no overall winner of the Bonspiel except the Renfrew County Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society as all money raised from the weekend goes directly to their support services.
Since the start of Cobden’s Curl For A Cure over $23,000 has been generated.
New this year was sponsor a game in memory or support of a loved one that was affected by cancer. Ten people were recognized by family and friends. They were: Ted Humphries, Donald Hamilton, Patsy Moore, Jim Gauthier, Steve Gauthier, Victor Gauthier, Mabel Springer, Shawna McGrath, Bruce Nighbor and Yvette Watson.
“Everyone is extremely generous and there is wonderful community support,” said Shawn McGrath. “We get donations for the silent auction, donations of food for the turkey supper and monetary donations that go directly to the branch. This event would not be so successful if we didn’t have everyone’s participation and generosity.”
