PEMBROKE — The Phoenix Centre for Families and Children presents its 3rd Annual Score One for Mental Health floor hockey tournament on Saturday, May 13th in support of their Crisis and Trauma Program. Hosted at Fellowes High School, teams will score one for a chance to claim or reclaim their title for each age division, 9-12, 13-16, and 17+. This 4-on-4 floor hockey tournament is open to the public. Additional events will be available throughout the day including skills competitions, raffles, BBQ, with great prizes to be won!
This annual event is intended to increase overall awareness for Children’s Mental Health through a public community event uniting children and families. The event is held on the second Saturday of May each year in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month and shortly following Mental Health Awareness Week which is May 1-7 this year. More importantly, team registration and activities throughout the day will allow The Phoenix Centre to specifically improve and enhance their programs to attain their vision to support all children and families in the achievement of optimal mental health and well-being.
Greg Lubimiv, Executive Director of The Phoenix Centre states that, “Although the Provincial Government provides funding for children’s mental health across the province there are many more children, youth and families in need than there are resources available. Research has shown that only 1 in 4 who experience mental health challenges will access treatment. Score One for Mental Health will help to provide funding to support our 24/7 Crisis service as well as our Trauma program.”
To achieve growth and awareness of these programs, Score One for Mental Health will consist of the following:
• 10 teams per age division whom can register for $80.00 (8 players maximum per team)
• Donated raffle items, BBQ, and prizes from local businesses
• Registration information can be accessed by visiting phoenixpembroke.com/event/score-one/
