WHITEWATER REGION (Westmeath) — The 4H Mountain Biking Club is a Renfrew County 4H Club that collaborated with the Westmeath and District Recreation Association (WDRA) to run a mountain biking program from the end of June until July 23.
The club had approximately 20 participants ranging from 10 years to 17 years old. Brenda Lammi was the mountain biking instructor who was kind enough to share her expertise with us and Anne Bromley and Neil Nicholson were the two 4H leaders for the club.
The Club members met every Sunday and almost every Tuesday to do a number of different activities involving mountain biking, including going to GearHeads in Petawawa, riding the trails and discussing mountain biking techniques and safety.
The trails we rode on were the ones behind the Whitewater Brewery Company, near the Beachburg Gun Range in the Renfrew County Forest, and the Pappin Trail near Beachburg Little Lakes, all of which are maintained by The Beachburg Off-Road Cycling Association (BORCA).
My favourite experience of the mountain biking club was riding the Little Lakes trails and meeting new people. A special thank you to Ms. Lammi for all of her instruction and BORCA for all of their help and use of the trails.
The WDRA will continue to have mountain bike group rides every Sunday on local trails for ages 12 and up. For more information please contact Mr. Nicholson or Ms. Lammi.
