(PEMBROKE, ON) – The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP wrapped up a week-long Distracted Driving campaign which started on March 13 and concluded on March 19.
Over the course of the campaign, officers kept a keen eye out for motorists who were using a cell phone while behind the wheel. Officers were assisted by members of OPP’s Highway Safety Division (HSD) during this important traffic safety initiative.
During the week a total of 54 motorists were charged with using a hand-held electronic device while driving and one driver was charged with careless driving which was distraction related.
The enforcement campaign followed recent engagement and education efforts throughout the detachment area. Detachment Commander Mark Wolfe was pleased with the officer’s dedication and commitment to the campaign.
“Driving while distracted compromises the safety of everyone using our roadways,” D/C Wolfe said. “Efforts to engage the community, educate drivers and enforce our distracted driving laws will continue throughout the year.”
In April officers will be taking part in the OPP’s Easter Long Weekend Spring Seat Belt Campaign which runs from April 14 to April 17. Seat belts save lives. Buckle Up!
