The Opeongo High School Merry Melodies Holiday Concern and Bake Sale is scheduled for next Thursday, Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m.
“Our musicians have been working very hard this semester and are very excited to show off their talents,” said teacher Jodie Armstrong. “The finale will be my two junior classes joining the band.”
This means about 70 young people will be performing together, she said.
Won’t it be something to see, and hear, almost 70 kids play together?
There is $5 admission at the door.
This concert will kick off their nursing home and school tours,, she said.
“Not only will it help us pay for our entry to Nationals, but will help to pay for transportation to the nine different places we will be visiting before the break,” Ms. Armstrong said.
She noted the band will be conducting whole school workshops in instrumental and vocal music and drama. There will be singalongs and min-workshops in the nursing homes, if time allows, the bands will be visiting.
“Our students serve a snack to the residents and stay for a visit,” Ms. Armstrong said, adding, “I find the experience very rewarding and character building for us, and it enriches everyone in so many ways.”
The visitations begin on Monday, Dec. 3 at Beachburg Public School followed two days later, on Dec. 5, at Cobden District Public School.
On Thursday, Dec. 6, 85 musicians from Eganville District Public School will travel to OHS and on Dec. 7, the bands will visit Bonnechere Manor and Graves Park Lodge, both in Renfrew.
Caressant Care will in Cobden will get a visit on Tuesday, Dec. 11 from the bands.
The final three visits are at Rock Public School on Dec. 13; Killaloe Public School on Dec. 17 and Eganville District Public School on Dec. 17.
