WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — The Whitewater Kings were on the winning side of the scoreboard with a 6 to 3 win over the Winchester Hawks Sunday afternoon at the Winchester Arena.
But, previous to the win, they were defeated 5-1 by the Casselman Vikings in front of a large crowd of school children at the JR Brisson Complex in Casselman last Thursday morning.
Saturday’s game was cancelled at the Astrolabe Arena in Cobden due to the fear of inclement weather.
The Kings are at home Friday, Nov. 30, with a special game against the Berlin Juniors. The evening begins at 5 p.m. with a tailgate party hosted by Olmstead’s Home Hardware. The rink doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the game begins an hour later. Special events are planned throughout the evening.
On Sunday, December 2 the Char-Lan Rebels and Kings battle it out on ice at the Astrolabe Arena, game time is 1:30 p.m.
On Sunday, Nov. 25, the Kings were on the scoreboard twice in the first period. King Artyom Shiman, assists by Reid Barber and Jared Campitelli, netted the first goal in just over a minute into the game. Forty-two seconds later, Tommy Cahill scored for the Kings, assist to Dylan Kuehl and Michael Hubers. Half-way through the period, the Hawks got on the scoreboard.
In the second period, it was at the 13:11 mark that King Quinn Vanhoof scored, assist to Kuehl and Cahill followed 47 seconds later by teammate Jake Pilon scoring, assist to Conrad Cybulski and Campitelli. To end the period for the Kings, Cahill scored, assist to Vanhoof and Kuehl. But, the Hawks weren’t to be left off the scoreboard, scoring with less than a minute to go.
In the final frame, each team scored with less than two minutes left on the clock. Hawk Hunter Randell scored, assist to Dillon Clemen and Evan Landray before the Kings finished the period, with a goal by Shiman, assist to Cahill.
It was a quiet time in the sin bin, with the Kings sitting out 16 minutes while the Hawks sat out 10 minutes.
King goalie Kevin Proulx was awarded the win, stopping 39 of 42 shots on goal. Hawk goalie Nathan Cheunk suffered the loss, stopping 22 of 27 goals while Brent Pledge-Dickson helped between the pipes, stopping 9 of 9 shots on goal.
Kings Artyom Shiman and Tommy Cahill were awarded the first two stars with Hawk Ben Lapier earning the third star.
On Thursday, Nov. 22, the Kings were defeated 5-1 by the Casselman Vikings in front of a large crowd of school children at the JR Brisson Complex in Cassleman last Thursday.
The Vikings were on the scoreboard five times before King Artyom Shiman scored, assist by Alec Lindecker, halfway through the final period.
The Kings racked up 20 penalty minutes while the Vikings earned 22 minutes.
King goalie Kevin Proulx stopped 36 of 41 shots on goal while Viking goalie Mathieu Chenier had a easy game only having to stop 15 of 16 shots on goal.
The first two stars went to Vikings Joshua Peladeau and Mathieu Talbot while King Artyom Shiman earned the final star.
