RENFREW OPP WEEKLY NEWS
(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 248 calls for service during the past week.
Domestic Violence
Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated seven domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with forcible confinement, pointing a firearm, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; another male was charged with fail to comply with an undertaking and breach of probation. No other criminal offences took place.
Break and Enter
On Monday May 29 at approximately 3:17 am OPP officers responded to an alarm at Home Hardware store on Daniel Street in Arnprior. The investigation revealed someone had cut and pried several locks at the rear of the property. It is not believed anything was stolen. Provincial Constable (PC) Tamara Dube is leading the investigation.
Sometime overnight on May 29 someone entered a residence on Bert Hall Street in Arnprior. There were no signs of forced entry. Items were moved about but nothing appears to have been stolen. PC Colleen McGrath is investigating.
Over the weekend of May 27-29 someone stole 3 leather saddles. The thief entered an unlocked shed at a property on Highway 17 in Whitewater Region where the saddles were stored and stole them. PC Mark Yarmel is investigating.
Several buildings at the Zion Hill Camp in Whitewater Region were broken into sometime between May 30 and June 1. Stolen property included several water nozzles each with 3 taps, two florescent yellow caution signs shaped like children playing, and a yellow extension cord. PC Jeff Cassidy is investigating.
Thefts
Police are investigating after five hanging flower baskets were stolen from the Kingburger parking lot on Stewart Street in Renfrew last week sometime overnight.
A roots bag was stolen from an unlocked vehicle overnight May 28. The bag contained a wallet with identification and other items. The vehicle was parked on Prince Ave W in Renfrew at the time.
Sometime between 2-4:30am on Monday May 29 someone stole a wallet from an unlocked vehicle while it was parked on Joffre Ave in Renfrew. The investigation is continuing as the thief attempted to access bank accounts with stolen bank cards.
On May 29 two youths were bicycling on Desmond Trudeau Drive in the Town of Arnprior when they stopped near a pond. After a short time one of the youths was approached and pushed over by a male, who then took the victim’s bike. Suspect is described as approximately 15 or 16 years old wearing a black hoodie, brown shorts and was said to have a darker complexion. The suspect pulled a hoodie over his face obstructing his face. The suspect grabbed the bike and rode up the dirt bath back to Desmond Trudeau and appeared to leave in an eastbound direction.
The bike is a yellow CCM 7-speed, has front white LEDs, rear red LEDs (which are after-market) and a brown leather seat on the centre of which there is a tear. PC Mark O’Dacre is investigating.
A boat motor was stolen from a property on Green Meadow Road in Greater Madawaska Township between 6pm June 1 and 7am June 2. The motor is a 2016 grey Yamaha F9.9hp Short Shaft outboard boat motor. A chain was cut to steal the motor. PC Carlvin Burgins is investigating.
A boat motor was also stolen from a back yard at a residence on Lochiel St in Renfrew. The older model 15 horse power Evinrude motor plus the gas tank were missing. The motor and gas tank were last seen on Wednesday evening, the 31st of May and reported stolen Friday June 2. PC Kevin Rebertz is investigating.
A large quantity of cosmetics was stolen from Rexall in Renfrew during the evening of Saturday June 3. Several hundred tubes of lipstick were reported stolen from the store. PC Mark Yarmel is investigating.
Impaired Drivers
On Monday May 29 OPP officers responded to a report of a possible impaired driver. The female suspect had reported driven to a parking lot on O’Brien Road in Renfrew and was last seen walking away on Gillan Road. Officers located the female at a residence on Gillan Road where she was arrested for impaired care or control of a motor vehicle. She was transported to the OPP detachment for breath tests. As a result of the investigation Bernadette Culhane, age 63 of Renfrew, was charged with impaired care or control of a motor vehicle, and care or control of a motor vehicle with over 80mgs. She was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on June 28. PC Sarah Darraugh led the investigation.
On Wednesday May 31 shortly after 5pm PC Darin Chaplin was on patrol on Opeongo Road in Admaston Bromley Township when he noticed a vehicle in the ditch. There was a male driver in the vehicle attempting to drive out of the ditch and there was damage to the front end of the vehicle. The officer approached the driver and after several observations he arrested the driver for impaired driving. Following breath tests at the detachment Kevin Laviolette age 42 of Mississippi Mills was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on June 28.
Mischief
Several windows were broken at Queen Elizabeth Public School in Renfrew. The damage occurred on two separate occasions between May 27 and June 1. PC Sarah Turcotte is investigating.
A window was broken at the Food Bank in Renfrew. The Food Bank is located inside the Renfrew Armouries building on Veteran’s Memorial Blvd. The damage was discovered on June 1. PC Sarah Turcotte is investigating.
A rock was thrown threw a patio door at a residence on Rutton Road in Horton Township. The rock broke only one pane of glass in the two pane door so no entry was gained to the building. The damage was discovered on June 1.
