FORESTERS FALLS — The 2017 Foresters Falls Winter Carnival provided a fantastic day in terms of weather and attendance, said Dave Alexander, chair of the Foresters Falls Athletic Association.
“We had great a great turnout for our events all days long and breakfast and lunch were almost sold out,” he said. “We had a full house for Bingo as well.”
Mr. Alexander thanked the volunteers who worked tirelessly planning the day-long event, as well as working throughout the day. He also thanked the businesses who donated towards the winter carnival.
“It certainly makes for a wonderful time for us to get our remarkable community together and celebrate the delightful winter that we get to enjoy here in the valley,” Mr. Alexander said. “Thank you very much to everyone who came out to have some fun with your friends and neighbours, and to meet new members of our community.”
He reminded the young people that the rink is open every week night and Saturday mornings for skating.
Mr. Alexander gave special recognition to brothers Tyshawn and Travis Lafont for their efforts in getting the ice up and going, as well as being leaders in maintaining it, along with help from other volunteers.
The Foresters Falls Athletic Association started in 1946. Mr. Alexander is not sure what year the winter carnival tradition began, but he believes it could be close to 70 years.
“It is the people in the community and businesses in the community that make this type of close-knit event possible,” Mr. Alexander said.

Festival of Outdoor Rinks
The Foresters Falls Athletic Association is also participating in the Festival of Outdoor Rinks on Friday, Feb. 10.
There will be the singing of O’Canada in honour of Canada’s 150 birthday followed by a free patriotic skate with people showing their Canadian spirit.
There will then be a shinny hockey game.
In case of inclement weather, there will be activities indoors at the rink.
