Lee Torvi, who resides on Indian Road in Whitewater Region, said Northern water snakes preparing to hibernate underground first go up into the trees to get warm in the afternoon sun. This snake could probably have stretched to almost three feet, which is about as large as they get. They do no harm, and unless you go looking for them, and know where to look, you would not find any. I don’t think they are common. Years ago we could find a dozen at a time, but on Wednesday, Oct. 5, I found only three. In the background is Juno watching the snake.
