COBDEN/BEACHBURG — Three municipal major projects have been completed.
The Cobden Tourist Booth and the Beachurg Arena are now both handicap accessible and the Little Lakes beach area is inviting to those going for a swim.
Chief Building Official Doug Schultz said the three projects came in under budget.
The front entrance to the Cobden Tourist Booth is now wider and the door can be electronically opened. The countertop inside has been lowered, but a wheelchair can fix comfortably under it, he said. While there are still two washrooms at the back of the building, they are both handicap accessible and one has a shower.
The ramp around the tourist building was reconstructed and is wider, he said.
Lehman Construction of Pembroke was awarded the project.
At the Beachburg Arena, there is now a ramp to the front entrance and again, the front entrance has been widened and has an electronica entrance.
The two washrooms in the front lobby were changed into one handicap accessible washroom, Mr. Schultz said.
The canteen counter was lowered and a wheelchair can fit comfortably underneath it. A new security window was also put in at the canteen counter.
An electronic device was installed to allow easier access to the warm, fan room in the arena, he said.
Harris Construction from Renfrew was the contractor for this project.
The three dead trees at the Little Lakes Beach were cut down and a new pavilion erected. The pavilion was made by students at Algonquin College in Pembroke. It is situated on a cement pad put in by Jamieson Concrete of Beachburg.
For safety reasons, it is no longer possible to drive around the pavilion. Mr. Schultz said large boulders were used as barriers to keep vehicles from going between the pavilion and the water.
In the future, a washroom facility will be added.
