WHITEWATER REGION (Beachburg) — An entrepreneur is ready to serve the people of Whitewater Region.
Born and raised on the Westmeath Road, Allan Lance said it’s time to give back. He is running for one of the five councillor positions.
“I’ve spent my entire life here,” with the exception of three years, he said.
With three decades almost under his belt, Mr. Lance believes he can provide the younger view on council. Besides, he said with a laugh, “I figured this would be a good venture for my 30th year. I’m jumping in with both feet.”
A businessman for more than a year, his business provides him the opportunity to attend to council business, because it allows him to be flexible with his time. He owns Lance Farm Equipment Repair and Service, operating a mobile unit and rents shop space on McGonegal Road.
While he hasn’t attended council meetings yet, Mr. Lance said he learns by doing. Sitting in the gallery watching isn’t going to help him be a better councillor, he said.
“I learn to do by doing,” he said, adding, “The 4H and Junior Farmers learn to do by doing, and that was me.”
With the demise of farming and forestry, Mr. Lance believes tourism and bringing young entrepreneurs to the area is imperative.
“I work with many of the farmers and forestry guys,” he said. “I see their ages and they are going up, not down.”
Mr. Lance also believes the roads need to be fixed up better than they are now, although, he realizes it will take money to do that, and it won’t be as simple as raising the taxes for the cash flow.
“We need to move forward with a plan,” he said.
Mr. Lance said he will work for the people if the people vote him in.
