RENFREW — The ninth annual Gourley’s Outdoors and Bluewave Energy BBQ and Bake Sale last month sawthe biggest attendance ever, said Keith Gourley, noting that they even had a groupof hunters from France stocking up for the hunt camp.
“The event continues to grow with people looking forward to the tasty bbq, sweet treats for the hunt camp, and an opportunity to give back to the community through our support of Renfrew Victoria Hospital,” he said.
The event has grown on the front line as well, with the addition of a new sponsor, Backyard Gourmet BBQ Company, and owner Jesse Welch lending time and talents to support the cause.
“I have helped out casually for the past couple of years but having started my own small business I want to help support other small businesses and give back to the community,” said Mr. Welch.
Now in his second year taking part in the day, Phil Lambert, Valley Guiding and Outfitting, said he came on board last year because he feels the community is very fortunate to have RVH.
“The hospital keeps growing and expanding and offering more services,” Mr. Lambert said, adding, “We’re very lucky to have it here and not have to travel for care.”
With this year’s donation of $4,035, including $400 from Valley Guiding and Outfitting ($4 from the sale of each pail of mineral), the total contribution to the RVH Foundation has reached more than $25,000.
