PEMBROKE — Carefor Health and Community Services’ Transportation Department received a much needed holiday surprise on December 15th. The Civitan Clubs of Pembroke, Petawawa and Cobden along with two additional donors – John VandenBaar and Nora Stewart, came together to donate $5,000 to Carefor’s Travel Subsidy Fund.
“Our Travel Subsidy Fund was created in an effort to provide support to those who require non-urgent medical transportation but may not have the financial means to do so,” said Alice Grenon, manager of community support services. “We have seen an increase in demand for this fund with last year being the first year that fund was depleted by January. Prior to receiving the generous donation from the Civitan Clubs, we feared and anticipated that our Fund would be exhausted by the end of this month
“We are very thankful and thrilled to have received such a generous donation right before the holiday,” said Sharon Maye, director of operations. “It is because of generous donations such as this, that we are able to continue to offer vital programs and services across Renfrew County for those who require them most. We cannot thank the Civitan Clubs, John and Nora enough.”
Carefor’s Transportation Program is one of their largest program offerings. The program provides door-through-door transportation to individuals across the Renfrew County – bringing clients to local and out of town non-urgent medical appointments. Over a six month period, this program provided over 13,500 drives for local residents and the demand for service continues to grow. To learn more about this program please call Carefor at 613-732-9993.
