COBDEN — Art Cobb, who has been in charge of the Cobden Tourist Booth for many years, will remain at the helm for this year.
Councillor Daryl McLaughlin questioned if it’s time someone else would get involved with taking over the care of the tourist booth.
“(Former) Councillor Cobb’s health isn’t real great,” he said at last night’s council meeting. “I’m wondering if we had somebody else who could help him.”
Chief Administrative Officer Christine FitzSimons noted Mr. Cobb contacted deputy-clerk Hope Dillabough requesting he would like to do the job again this year. She noted Ms. Dillabough works with Mr. Cobb and there’s hope of acquiring a summer student to help this year.
“As time goes by, more than likely, council will have to start thinking about the future and the running of the tourist booth may not always be a volunteer position,” she said.
Coun. McLaughlin is hopeful another volunteer may be interested in taking over the duties.
“Former councillor Cobb does a tremendous job and should be recognized every year for the commitment,” he said.
Councillor Chris Olmstead said there are many people who volunteer, so it’s not as if Mr. Cobb is left on his own.
Coun. McLaughlin said Mr. Cobb is the one who organizes the volunteers, which takes a lot of work.
“He’s the one who organizes it and makes sure it goes,” he said.
CAO FitzSimons asked Ms. Dillabough to work with Mr. Cobb on a succession plan.
