WESTMEATH – Award winning La Passe photographer Phil Cottrell is hosting a one-evening workshop at the Westmeath Rec Centre on Wednesday, January 25.
Mr. Cottrell has won awards at local fairs and art shows with his photography. He also creates cards with his photographs on them, which he sells.
This Basic Tips for Taking Better Pictures workshop will help photographers understand photography composition by providing suggestions which can be applied in almost any situation to enhance the impact of a scene, Mr. Cottrell said.
“These guidelines will help you take more compelling photographs, lending them a natural balance, drawing attention to the important parts of the scene, or leading the viewer’s eye through the image,” he explained.
He will take those attending the workshop step-by-step through his own helpful tips as you see the elements of a great photograph come together.
Once people learn the basic tips, Mr. Cottrell is sure their next photographs will get a ‘WOW, I love that shot’ from people.
Mr. Cottrell will bring a series of slides to class, showing examples of both good and not-so-good amateur photography.
He suggests those attending bring pen and paper to take notes during the workshop.
The free workshop is for residents in Whitewater Region who are 55 years and older. It is from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Westmeath Rec Hall on Wednesday, Jan. 25.
This event is sponsored by the Riverview Seniors Social Club with funding from the New Horizons for Seniors Program.
