Bob Edwards was presented with the Lennox and Erla McLaughlin Volunteer Award by society director Steve Schultz.

Friday night’s opening of the Cobden Fair not only honoured those who were winners at last  last year’s fair, but the memory of a father killed the night  before the opening.

Whitewater Region Mayor Hal Johnson spoke briefly about Adam MacGregor, a father of two and soon to be one more, husband, son, brother and volunteer firefighter. He had been tragically killed in a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Hwy. 17 and Foresters Falls Road.

Mayor Johnson asked those to remember Mr. MacGregor in a moment of silence.

Various awards were then presented.

Wendy and Gordon Angus received the Agricultural Society Service Award. Revel Stewart read aloud a statement he prepared as to why these two are deserving of the award, which included the fact they have been involved with the horse show event for many years.

Natasha Kargus was presented with the Junior Hall Exhibitor award.
Michael Quinn was presented with the crop award.
