BEACHBURG — Mother Nature’s fury was full force on the weekend, with sunshine and heat as well as a furious storm.
A motocross show was shortened on Saturday and the beef cattle show was put on hold, but just for a few minutes, as the rain pelted down, sometimes coming in almost half-way inside the show dome.
But, for the most part, the sun was shining throughout the three-day 158th Beachburg Fair and the people came out.
“Friday night we had a record crowd for the derby,” said Adrian Vereyken, president of the Beachburg Agricultural Show.
The dance Saturday was packed with about 750 people in attendance, he added.
Late Sunday afternoon, as he looked around the fairgrounds, he said, “Looks like we have an above-average crowd for Sunday.”
Even though it poured rain mid Saturday afternoon, there were 204 meals sold, and usually it’s just under 250.
The crowds around the motocross events were enthusiastic about the show, Mr. Vereyken said.
The open mic in the Bavarian Gardens went over well.
Inside the arena, the vendors seemed to be pleased with how many people came and checked out their wares, he added.
“So far, so good for the weekend,” he said.
