DOUGLAS — There were winners, and of course losers, but without the trophies, it may have been hard to tell who was who.

Area Beavers, Cubs and Scouts held their annual Kub Car Rally in the gymnasium of Opeongo High School on Saturday, April 14. There was plenty of noise as the young boys and girls talked, laughed and had lots of fun.

The Beavers, which are the younger of the three groups, participated in various activities throughout the day, including their beaver buggy race. They raced the beaver backwards up the track – but it could not go over the top; played beaver bowling and curling, and constructed buildings using cardboard boxes and other materials.

The Beavers let their creativity flow while drawing on a large sheet expressing all the things they like about Beavers.

Prior to the start of the kub car races, Olivia Hudson, 8, and a first-year Cub, said she has enjoyed her time in cubs and playing with the Beavers.

She’s experienced camping and is learning to tie knots.

Olivia is also working on various badges, including hobby, creative and home.

Her mom, Lori-Anne, is a Beaver Scouter.

She explained that the Cubs use a kit and carve out a car, make the wheels and decorate it. The Beavers each make a buggy with a beaver. The Scouts make a transport truck, she added.

This year’s rally saw 25 Beavers, 14 Cubs and 14 Scouts participate from four packs: 1st Cobden; 4th Petawawa; 1st Deep River and 1st Madawaska Valley.

Each participant raced their car three to four times prior to the finals taking place, Ms. Hudson said.

The scout truck winners were, in order of first, second and third: William Wang – Deep River, Jacob Coleman – Cobden and Lucas Belland – Eganville. Titan Palubeskie of Eganville won most original and Gabriel Staigh of Cobden won best design.

In the Kub Car Rally, Joshua Braithwaite and Corey Roussil, both from 4th Petawawa, placed first and second respectively, with Noah Brushey from 1st Deep River in third.

Ashton Mumfort of 4th Petawawa had most original, followed by Andrew Person of 1st Madawaska and Payton Lucas of 1st Cobden.

Evan Rowan of 4th Petawawa won best design followed by Brennan Byce of 1st Cobden and Michael Chapat of 1st Madawaska Valley.

“All the Cubs and Beavers had a great time and are all looking forward to next year’s rally,” Ms. Hudson said.
