Angus Edwards grew up on the Town Line, now called Snake River Line. He travelled the country constructing buildings for the railroads. In this photo, Angus (far right) is working with (from left) Jas. Walsh and Joe Flannigan. On the back of the photo, in Angus’s handwriting it is written: At Camp 50, January 1923. Growing up, Frank and Angus (father and son), helped build parts of the railway in Canada to earn money for the farm and supplement their income. Angus is known to have worked in the Nipissing area. Frank and his family cleared land for a farm on Snake River Line. Frank and Elizabeth’s 21 children were born at the farm, with 13 surviving. After Angus died, his son Bob Edwards and wife Dorothy took over the farm. When they retired, their son Stephen and wife Janet Edwards took over the farm, and continue to operate it. It is a century farm and as many know, the Renfrew County Plowing Match was held there in 2016. We thank Sheila Edwards of Peterborough for sharing this photo with readers of Whitewater News. If you have an old photo you would like to share with our readers, please email it to [email protected]
