OSCEOLA — Forester, historian and author Dave Lemkay will be the guest speaker at the Bromley Historical Society seventh annual Dan Gorman Memorial Talk. The event will be held on Sunday, May 20 at 2 p.m. in the Old Town Hall, 498 Micksburg Road, Osceola.
The presentation will recount the work he and the late Carol McCuaig undertook on the Canada 150 book, Echoes & Ripples, Township of Admaston/Bromley.
This sesquicentennial project is a celebration of life in the township over the past 15 decades. It is a collection of heritage photos and anecdotes that brings back many memories. The book is a time machine that takes us through lives and places in the distant and not-so-distant past.
Mr. Lemkay’s 45-year career, which draws on his family’s Ottawa Valley forestry roots dating back to the 1820s, spans the pulp and paper industry and forestry service. He was instrumental in four history-related books: 75 Years of Research in the Woods (the history of the Petawawa Forest Experiment Station); Alligators of the North (the story of Steam Warping Tug Boats built 1889 to 1930 in Simcoe, Ontario); Destination Algonquin Park: Tracks to Cache Lake and the Highland Inn (a history of J.R. Booth’s Ottawa, Arnprior, Parry Sound Railway); and, Admaston/Bromley Township’s, Echoes & Ripples – already in its second printing.
Prior to this free presentation, a short Annual General meeting will take place. Refreshments will be served following the question and answer period.
