COBDEN — Charlene Jackson, who was working in the office at Ross Township when amalgamation talks occurred, said the winners of the Name the Township contest, which was held when the four townships amalgamated into one, only want a certificate of recogntion.
Ms. Jackson advised council at its meeting yesterday that she spoke about the contest with Dean Sauriol, the former chief administrative officer for Whitewater township. The two now work together at Laurentian Valley Township.
Gary Johnson, whose family won the contest, received the $100 prize and has spent it, she said. What the family wants is a certificate saying they won the contest.
Ms. Jackson said she heard Ross Township Reeve Alvin Stone talk about the certificate, saying it could possibly be presented at a dinner, although officially there was no mention of this.
She said the presentation of a certificate to the Johnson family never occurred.
“What the Johnson family is looking for is a certificate, just in recogntion, so if that could happen for their family, that would be great,” Ms. Jackson said. “The $100 has been spent and they have nothing to reflect that they actually named the township.”
Mayor Jim Labow suggested the certificate be created and possibly presented at the next council meeting.
Ms. Jackson said the family is not seeking public recognition, they just want a certificate.
