PEMBROKE — Last Friday, Sept. 7, on a sunny and warm day, 88 enthusiastic golfers set out to drive home the importance of giving back. The 14th Annual Warden’s Cup Invitational Golf Tournament was hosted once again this year by County of Renfrew Warden Jennifer Murphy at the beautiful Whitetail Golf Club near Eganville. The best ball format shotgun start tournament saw teams from across the county and beyond turn out for 18 holes of golf, dinner, prizes all in support of the Renfrew Victoria Hospital Oncology Unit, and the Renfrew County United Way.
“I want to take an opportunity to thank each participant and every sponsor for their generosity and support with making the 14th Annual Tournament such a success,” said County of Renfrew Warden, Jennifer Murphy.”I also congratulate the winning team for a match well played; that being said the Renfrew Victoria Hospital Oncology Unit and the Renfrew County United Way and their recipients of their expert care and support are the real winners today. Fundraising events like this tournament are a real testament to the giving nature of our residents.”
Warden Murphy presented Sarah Robinson from the Renfrew Victoria Hospital Foundation and Pat Lafreniere from the Renfrew County United Way, each a cheque in the amount of $2,010. The donation was from funds raised at the tournament, and staff denim days held earlier in the year at County of Renfrew offices. In the 14 years, the annual warden’s tournament has raised more than $55,000 for local charities.
Later in the day during the presentations, event Emcee Bruce Beakley, Director of Human Resources at the County of Renfrew, announced the winning team. The happy winners, Bob Sweet, Sonia Sweet, Brad Sweet and Victoria Sweet posed for a picture with their trophy and prizes in front of an applauding crowd in the clubhouse.
