COBDEN — Pitch in week is  April 17 to the 23rd.
This is all part of  a national campaign to clean up Canada’s communities, and Whitewater Region is pleased to be part of this programme which is the largest environmental
improvement Campaign in Canada.
It is a partnership between governments,
the media, industry and the public, said Whitewater Region Mayor Hal Johnson.
“All residents of Whitewater Region are encouraged to keep our municipality
attractive and free from roadside litter and other garbage,” he said. “Please  help
out  by cleaning up the immediate area where you live.”
Special no-charge garbage bags can be picked up after April 15 at the
Westmeath garage and the Whitewater Region municipal office. The bags are supplied courtesy of Pitch In Week corporate sponsor Tim Hortons.
“You do not necessarily have to be part of a group and you can clean up any
area you wish, a local park for example,” Mayor Johnson said.
He encourages people to wear safety gloves and bright clothing.
He noted clean recycling can be separated, but dirty paper and
plastic should be treated as regular garbage.
The garbage and recycling picked up along roadsides and parks can be dropped off at the bins located at the La Passe boat launch, the Westmeath Public Works Garage and the Whitewater Region landfill site on Kohlsmith Road. There is no charge for Pitch In Week bags taken to the landfill site.
“Be a true Canadian and  pitch in…you will help keep our Whitewater Region beautiful, and everybody can enjoy this wonderful area,” Mayor Johnson said.
