Cobden Beach Closed until Further Notice Due to Algae Concerns

The Township of Whitewater Region continues to work closely with Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA), Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU), and the Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks (MECP) as a result of a suspected Blue-Green Algae (BGA) bloom observation on Muskrat Lake Testing has confirmed that a Blue-Green Algae (BGA) bloom is present on Muskrat Lake.

The Cobden Beach will be closed to swimming and recreational purposes until further notice.

Signage has been posted at the Cobden beach and the following boat launches: Cobden, Muskrat River, Cornerview/ Faught.
The Township’s drinking water system operator, Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA), continue to collect water samples for Blue-Green Algae (BGA) in the raw water intake and treatment protocols are in place at the Cobden Water Treatment Plant.

Please note that although a blue-green algae bloom has been detected in the lake, the municipal drinking water is still safe to drink and there is no public health risk for residents of Cobden who are on the municipal drinking water system.
