COBDEN – The Grace United Church of Cobden held the first Decoration Day and Memorial service in two years, since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, on June 26th at 7pm at the Cobden Union Cemetery along the Trans-Canada Highway.

Rev. Ingrid Condie-Bennett led the ceremony, with Joselyn Smaglinski playing organ.

“People become disconnected when they aren’t able to have that closure.” she said.

The ceremony marks the first public ceremony in Cobden in two years.

The opening hymn was “Precious Memories, with the Closing Hymn being “Blessed Assurance”.

Scripture readings included Job 19:1, 23-27 from the Hebrew Scripture, and Matthew 5:1-12 from the New Testament (The Sermon on the Mount).
