Cobden Midgets make it to the B final in home tourney in Beachburg

BEACHBURG — Cobden Muskrat Midgets were defeated in the B championship of their house league tournament in Beachburg on Saturday.
Ottawa West End were the A champs and South Grenville the B champs.
To get to the B championship, Cobden was trounced by Pembroke 7-2 in Game 1. Scoring for Cobden was Steve Hendry and Matt Ciphery.
In their second game, Cobden edged Ottawa East End 4-3. Scoring in this game were Owen Egan with two and singles by Colin Edwards and Cody Wilson.
In the B final, South Grenville defeated Cobden 6-4. Scoring for Cobden were Edwards with two and singles by Wilson and Ciphery.
The A final saw Ottawa West End trounce Pembroke 7-1.
There were nine games played throughout the day-long tournament held at the Beachburg Arena. The games were:
Pembroke and Cobden – 7-2
Ottawa West End and Deep River – 5-0
Cobden and Ottawa East End – 4-3
South Grenville and Deep River – 4-0
Pembroke and Ottawa East End – 3-2
Ottawa West End and South Grenville – 1-0
Ottawa East End and Deep River – 7-3
Then the two championship games.
It was a good tournament with six teams competing for the top two trophies, team manager Steve Webster said.
“Financially it was a good tournament,” he added. “The money goes towards team expenses.”
The team is currently playing so-so with a record of four wins, 11 losses and one tie, Manager Webster said. There are four games left in league play.
“Playoffs start in early February,” he said.
There are 13 teams in the league.
Team members are goalie Liam Buxcey, and players Nathan Lindsay, Stephen Foss, Owen Egan, Macauley Barron, Connor Webster, Matt Ciphery, Cody Wilson, Colin Edwards, Stephen Hendry and Alex Harding. Bench staff are coach Kevin Wilson, assistant coaches Phil Ciphery and Chris Barron, trainer Carole Buxcey and manager Steve Webster.

This weekend there are games in Cobden and Westmeath:
Friday night at 6:30 Cobden Atom Muskrat house league faces off against Eganville Atom 2 in Cobden.
The Cobden Muskrat Bantam house league hits the ice on Saturday at 11 a.m. against Barry’s Bay in Cobden. That evening the Muskrat Bantam competitive team faces off against Petawawa Bantam Patriots at 6:30 in the Astrolabe Arena in Cobden.
Sunday morning at 10, the Westmeath Muskrat Midget house team faces off against Pembroke Midget 3 at the Westmeath Arena.
