RENFREW — The Renfrew Detachment of the OPP is continuing to investigate a serious collision that closed Highway 17 near Renfrew during the morning commute on Tuesday, July 3.
Renfrew OPP officers responded to a report of a head on collision on Highway 17 west of Bruce St at 6:04 am. Upon arrival the officers discovered four vehicles were involved in the crash and the highway was closed and traffic re-routed.
Renfrew County paramedics attended and transported 3 drivers to hospital with serious injuries. One of these drivers was later airlifted from hospital to a trauma centre. The fourth driver suffered minor injuries and was not transported.
Preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle travelling eastbound entered the westbound lanes and struck a vehicle head on. Two other vehicles were unable to avoid these vehicles and were involved in the collision. Charges are pending against the driver of the eastbound vehicle. Provincial Constable Lindsey Moore is leading the investigation.
