WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — Art Cobb is one step closer to being immortalized in Cobden’s municipal park.
Former township chief administrative officer Dean Sauriol sent a letter to council in early summer asking that the tourist booth be named after former councillor Art Cobb, who looked after the tourist booth and its volunteers for many years.
Since council did not have a policy for naming buildings, a policy has been developed which provides clarity and consistency. The policy covers municipal parks and facilities, including a room or part of a facility. However, the three arenas, Westmeath, Beachburg and the Astrolabe in Cobden, are excluded to allow for corporate sponsorship opportunities.
Chief Administrative Officer Robert Tremblay said there are five criteria for commemoration and requires the consent of the individual or their family.
“Mrs. Cobb supports Dean’s request and we will work with Dean and the Cobb family on the request,” Mr. Tremblay said.
If all goes according to plan, CAO Tremblay said the renaming of the Cobden tourist booth will be done prior to the opening of the season.
