WHITEWATER REGION (Beachburg) — The Township of Whitewater Region and account holders of the Beachburg Scotiabank Branch were informed in December of the impending closure of the branch effective in June. Access to banking services is essential to the community.
A Save Our Scotiabank (SOS) Committee, chaired by Joey Trimm, was formed and brings together partners on this important issue. Whitewater Region Council has asked that the closure be reconsidered.
The bank has scheduled a Town Hall Meeting in Beachburg for January 28. The Committee respectfully requested that Scotiabank postpone the meeting until early April so that, according to federal legislation, the community has an opportunity to reflect on the tremendous impact the closure of the bank in Beachburg will have. Sufficient time is required for the community to formulate their concerns and questions for the Town Hall meeting. This information is necessary for them to make an informed decision on their options.
The Committee has prepared a survey to hear from residents on the closure. It is available on the Township’s website and in hardcopy at various locations in Beachburg including the Whitewater-Bromley Community Health Centre.
Testimonials are also being sought from affected residents. They are encouraged to share their concerns and impacts with members of the committee.
