COBDEN– Whitewater Region Councillor Daryl McLaughlin believes it’s time reports were brought to council from the boards and committees various council members sit on.
“I want to see reports,” he said at the Nov. 18 council meeting. “Council members to go meetings and we get nothing back. If they go to a meeting they should bring back the information and share it.”
As an example, he noted Bernie Tracey sits on the Ottawa River Power Corporation and nothing has ever been brought back to a meeting, Coun. McLaughlin said. He further noted there used to be correspondence and various statistics from the police services board. There hasn’t been anything since this council has taken over, that he’s aware of.
Mayor Hal Johnson said much of what is discussed cannot be relayed to the public. He believes the literature is provided for the meeting and at meeting’s end it’s taken back and shredded. However, he can provide a verbal report.
However Coun. McLaughlin said it’s a shareholder’s meeting, the information is public.
Councillor Charlene Jackson suggested that reports be provided every so often during the appropriate committee meetings. She suggested it could be a verbal report.
