PEMBROKE — Yesterday, County Councillors had an election of a different kind. They voted by paper ballot for their favourite tagline from a list of the top five submissions. Prior to this, the public voted and narrowed the 181 total submitted taglines down to 15 semi-finalists, and then Lower-Tier Municipal Councillors narrowed that list to the five finalists. The top five finalists were invited to attend County Council yesterday, and shortly after 1:30 p.m., the official winner of the “County of Renfrew Warden’s Tagline Contest” was declared.

After all the votes were tallied, the winner was: “Experience Our History, Share Our Future!” The winning tagline was submitted by Terry Wilson, a resident of Laurentian Valley, and was represented by his wife Connie at yesterday’s presentation.

“We had a great response from the residents of Renfrew County, and the number of excellent submissions we received proves that we have a huge amount of talent in our community. This was a fantastic way for all residents of Renfrew County to really engage and be part of the future branding of their county.”, Commented, County of Renfrew Warden Peter Emon.

Chief Administrative Officer Jim Hutton shared this, “We are very pleased with the level of community input that we received from this initiative. The new tagline will appear on the County of Renfrew’s website, and other promotional material.”

The intent of the three month long contest was to replace the former tagline of “Pretty as a Picture” with a new and fresh tagline that speaks to the essence of Renfrew County. The previous tagline was adopted more than 15 years ago, and was developed out of a photo contest the County held for their website at the time.

In exchange for his submission, yesterday’s contest winner was publically acknowledged for their creative tagline, and received a prize package valued at $500 from the County of Renfrew made up of gift cards and certificates from Renfrew County attractions and businesses. Secondary prizes were also awarded to the four runner-ups.
