PEMBROKE —  Renfrew County Chief Administrative Officer Jim Hutton officially announced his retirement last week.

Mr. Hutton has served as the CAO of the County of Renfrew since April 2010, however his career in public service spans more than three decades with all but two of those years being at the County of Renfrew.  Mr. Hutton started his career at the county in 1987 as a Planning Technician, he then worked for two years in Bruce County before returning to the County of Renfrew in 1991 as a Land Use Planner.  Between 1991 and 2018 Mr. Hutton held several other positions including, Economic Development Officer, Manager of Planning and Forestry, Director of Development and Property and finally as CAO/Clerk. He retires from his position on September 30.

“Working for an upper tier municipality has been both very rewarding and challenging,” Mr. Hutton said. “The County has over 800 employees and delivers crucial human services to our residents such as long-term care, affordable housing, child care, Ontario Works and paramedic services. The County of Renfrew is the largest geographic County in Ontario so we also have many kilometres of roads and several hundred bridges and culverts to maintain.”

Warden of the County of Renfrew, Jennifer Murphy said, “Jim personifies the County of Renfrew’s core values of honesty and integrity, professionalism, client service orientation, and focus on results. It is with the greatest appreciation on behalf of County Council that I say thank you to Jim for 31 years of public service. The County of Renfrew is certainly a better place because of Jim’s leadership and dedication.”

Mr. Hutton received many congratulatory remarks and handshakes from County councillors and staff following his announcement.

Mr. Hutton thanked them saying, “Throughout my career I have been very fortunate to have worked with many dedicated wardens, elected officials, and staff. Staff at the County of Renfrew are professional, competent and dedicated.”
