Municipal Class Environmental Assessment – Schedule B Broomes Creek Dam Review (County Structure C201)

A Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Schedule B was completed assessing various options to address the deteriorating conditions of the Broomes Creek Dam (County Structure C201). These options included:

  1. Do nothing
  2. Decommission the dam in its entirety to remove the asset and restore the natural landscape; and
  3. Remove and replace the dam in its entirety

The above project is being planned under Schedule B of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment.

Subject to comments received as a result of this Notice, and the receipt of necessary approvals, the County of Renfrew intends to proceed with the replacement of the dam with a concrete weir.

Interested persons should provide written comment to the County on the proposal within 30 calendar days from the date of this Notice. Comments should be directed to Lee Perkins at the County of Renfrew.

If concerns arise regarding this project, which cannot be resolved in discussion with the County, or there are outstanding concerns regarding potential adverse impacts to constitutionally protected Aboriginal and treaty rights, a person or party may request that the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks order a change in the project status and require a higher level of assessment under an individual Environmental Assessment process (referred to as a Part II Order).

A Part II Order request must be provided within 30 calendar days of this Notice. Part II Order Request Form must be used to request a Part II Order, which is available online on the Forms Repository Website (http://www.forms.ssb.gov.on.ca) by searching “Part II Order Request” or “012-2206E” (the form number). The completed Part II Order Request should be addressed in writing to:

If there is no request received by March 11, 2022, the County of Renfrew will proceed to design and construction of the Broomes Creek Dam (C201) as presented in the planning documentation.

All relevant agencies and stakeholders such as the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, and the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry will continue to be consulted throughout detailed design.
