There were 10 participants in the cycling challenge of the Renfrew County Seniors Games. The event was held on the Gore Line in Westmeath, Whitewater Region. The participants were, from left, Maryanne Wendorf, Sandra Keon, Sue Sylvestre, Mary Poirier, Connie Tabbert, Ralph Chown, Anne Murphy, Sheila Perras (organizer), Mike Wendorf and Sue Samson. Volunteering with Ms. Perras were time keeprs Cheryl Spotswood and Wendy Orcutt and course manager Randy Fletcher. Ms. Perras said although the event is structured as a race, “the real purpose of the ride, and all of the events, is to bring seniors together for some fun and physical activity.” In the 75+ age group, Ralph Chown won gold with a time of 22:13:94; 65+ age group Sandra Keon won gold with a time of 23:06:78; men 55+ gold winner was Mike Wendorf with a time of 20:17:28; and in the women’s 55+, the top three finishers were Anne Murphy, gold, 17:58:22; Sue Sylvestre, silver, 20:52:50 and Maryanne Wendorf, bronze, 21:12:78. It was also a special day for Mike and Maryanne Wendorf, because not only did they win medals, but they were celebrating their 42nd wedding anniversary. Photo submitted
