BURNSTOWN — The Renfrew Detachment of the OPP has concluded the investigation into an October 27, 2017 single vehicle collision on Calabogie Road that claimed the lives of two young men and left two other males with serious injuries. All of the males were 18 years of age at the time. All of them were hockey players for the Renfrew Timberwolves.
The OPP, Renfrew County Paramedics and McNab Braeside Township Firefighters responded to the collision shortly after midnight on Calabogie Road, south of the Village of Burnstown. Three of the occupants had been ejected. One male was pronounced dead at the scene, one was transported to hospital by Ornge Air Ambulance and two were transported by paramedics to hospital.
Brandon Thomas Hanninman of Admaston Bromley Township died at the scene. Alexander (Alex) Paquette of Renfrew succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
The investigation revealed the vehicle had been northbound when it left the roadway and struck a rock cut. Hanniman was driving the vehicle at the time. Police have concluded that alcohol contributed to the crash.
Two OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) and the Coroner’s Office assisted with this investigation, which revealed the males had been consuming alcohol at a local establishment.
As a result of the investigation Ann Senack, 62 years old of Greater Madawaska Township has been charged with:
• Two counts of causing death by criminal negligence contrary to section 220(b) of the Criminal Code (CC).
• Two counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm contrary to section 221 of the CC.
Ms. Senack was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Renfrew on Wednesday, May 1.
