COBDEN — The final Cruise Night for classic cars was held in the parking lot of Country Kitchen last Thursday evening.
The show usually ran for about two hours, 6 to 8 p.m., noted organizer Eric Dagg.
“The vast majority would park and then have supper and visit with each other,” he said of the classic car enthusiasts.
The informal situation also allows any new car owners to be integrated into the group, he said. The show was held every other Thursday starting May 31 and running until Sept. 4.
While the number of spectators isn’t known, Mr. Dagg said sometimes the same ones would come out, while at the same time, there were always a few new ones.
The event would happen rain or shine, but he did note, “There would have to be some pretty terrible weather for us not to show up.” However, he admitted, some of the vehicles were spoiled and weren’t taken out unless it was good weather.
At each of the shows held in Cobden, a 50/50 draw was held. Last Thursday evening, the proceeds, totalling $335, was presented to Bonnie Helferty, who is in charge of the Cobden Food Bank.
Mr. Dagg noted while the Cruise Night is finished in Cobden for the season, there are other Cruise Nights. The final one in Pembroke will be held at Harvey’s tonight (Thursday, Sept. 11) and in Renfrew Sept. 20 at Odi’s King Burger. Arnprior’s will continue to be every Wednesday evening until month’s end.
There will be a new show in Shawville on Sunday, Sept. 21 and the annual Octobeffest parade will be held at noon in Ladysmith on Oct. 5.
“There will be good beer and great food,” Mr. Dagg said, bringing a cheer from the crowd gathered at the Cruise Night in Cobden.
While the first night of next season’s Cruise Night isn’t known, Mr. Dagg said they will be held in the Country Kitchen parking lot again.
