BEACHBURG – Dawn Dubé launched her book, “From Coal Oil Lanterns to FaceTime”, at the Whitewater Inn in Beachburg on July 10th.
Owner Cindy Jamieson hosted the event, where Dubé talked about and read excerpts from the book to a gathering of people.
“It is a memoir of my mother, who suffered from mental health issues.” she sent the Whitewater News. “ The memoir spans nine decades and parallels historical events and tumultuous times in our world.”
She said some of the proceeds from the Launch were donated to the Robbie Dean Counseling Center in Pembroke, and the they raised $150 “in under 2 hours”.

“Growing up, I watched my mother struggle with mental health issues from time-to-time. “ she said. “It wasn’t something you discussed decades ago, even 5 years ago. Although as a society we are talking more and doing more to assist people with their personal struggles, I believe we still have a long way to go and telling stories like my mother’s is an important step.
Dawn Dubé was born in Montreal and is a graduate of Sir George Williams University. She has had a fulfilling career as a public relations and communications professional in both the public and private sectors. She was the Public Relations Manager for the Pembroke Campus of Algonquin College for twenty years before moving to work in the same capacity at the Ottawa Campuses. Dawn enjoys cycling, reading, writing and frequent outdoor cycling excursions with her family around the beautiful Ottawa Valley.
