PEMBROKE —Ontario PC Leader Doug Ford shared more details of his plan for the people, and in particular how they will provide real relief to families and businesses in rural Ontario.
As residents of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke know, rural and remote communities in the province suffer from a lack of high-speed broadband access as well as reliable cellular coverage. Additionally, while high-speed broadband access is universal in urban areas, only 85 percent of rural communities have similar access.
A Doug Ford led-Ontario PC Government will make broadband and cellular service a high priority—committing to spending in Eastern Ontario $17.75 million per year for each of the next four years on this vital infrastructure.
Ontario PC Party candidate John Yakabuski supports this plan.
“The current lack of coverage puts rural communities in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke at a huge competitive disadvantage when it comes to attracting new residents and businesses,” he said.
Unlike the Liberals and New Democrats, the PCs acknowledge this hindrance for rural Ontarians and have a plan to address it.
“This major pledge demonstrates that Doug Ford and the Ontario PCs is the only party committed to rural Ontario,” Mr. Yakabuski said.
He concluded by stating that the expansion of cellular services and broadband will have a positive impact because it will allow residents of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke to raise their families and build their careers right here at home.
