COBDEN — Get ready to laugh this weekend. The 20th annual Cobden Community Players hit the stage for another comedy show at the Cobden Agricultural Hall.
All the on-stage performers are familiar faces, said Ted Richardson, who has been involved since day one.
This year’s comedy is Things My Mother Taught Me, which is a comedy about a young couple moving into their first apartment together— halfway across the country from their parents, and to their surprise, everyone shows up to help them.
The play begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and there is a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday.
Mr. Richardson noted this year there has been a $2 increase to get in, going to $12 from $10. For those 12 and under, the cost is $6.
The Friday and Saturday evening meals are $13. For children 12 and under the cost is $7. Dinner is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Friday night’s supper is roast beef prepared by the women of Grace United Church while St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church is hosting the Saturday ham dinner.
The pre-entertainment Friday is Limited Edition while Saturday is the Leahy Cousins, featuring the Donohue-Enright families. The entertainment is from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m.
The proceeds from Friday and Saturday will go to local charities while Sunday’s event is evenly split between Oneness in Guatemala and the area team who will be travelling to Guatemala to build a home.
Mr. Richardson estimates the Cobden Community Players have donated between $75,000 and $100,000. This year’s local charities have not yet been decided on, he said, explaining that once the play is over and the proceeds are known, the group sits down and discusses the options.
