The Council of the Township of Whitewater Region postponed a motion to approve entering into an agreement with Whitewater and Wild Land Tours LTD for emergency assistance pertaining to relevant sections of the Ottawa River.

CAO Trembley said there was a delegation in March from Wilderness Tours, and based on that operators were contacted, and Joe Kowalski asked to “formalize a plan to ask local boat users an agreement to assist in emergency services on the river”.

He said that this does not constitute them having a Water Rescue service, which the Whitewater Region does not provide as a service.

“This does not necessarily give them special access to the river. “he said. “That’s really in Transportation Canada’s purview.”

Councillor Neil Nicholson asked if they could move to postpone this item, “to get more clarification on the details.”

Councillor Olmstead said he would like clarification on “what this would entail”.

There were no other questions, so they voted on the motion to postpone, which was then carried.
