2020 Annual Reports
The Council of Whitewater Region adopted the reports for the Cobden, Forester’s falls, and Haley drinking water systems, as reported by Steven Hodson.
No Councillors had any questions.
The motion was carried.
Emergency Rescue Equipment
The Council heard a motion to purchase new firefighting equipment, particularly the rescue air system, and additional SCVAs for rescuing fire fighters injured or trapped.
Councillor Jackson asked if it came within budget, which Hodson confirmed.
She also asked about the single sourced, which Hodson confirmed was because other equipment was from MSA and SCVA.
Councillor McLaughlin asked if all were the same company, due to past issues with compatibility due to multiple companies.
“Because we’ve gone with MSA in the past, we need equipment that’s compatible with that.” Hodson said.
“It would be nice to have that kind of information in report.” Councillor Jackson said.
“The cylinders will be replaced in five years, because they’re carbon fibers.” Hodson said. “Right now, they expire around the ten or fifteen year mark.”
Councillor Jackson later confirmed that the single source was in the report, she “just missed it.”
The motion was carried.
The Council then heard a motion to purchase eight sets of bunker of gear, to time out this year.
“The pricing was done last year, with four years of locked in pricing for our bunker gear.” Deputy-Chief Jonathan McLaren said. “We’ve been using the same helmets for ten years now.”
He said it works out to 25,700 to replace the gear.
He said that it would work out to eight to ten replacement gears every year.
The Mayor pointed out that the equipment is “time-sensitive” and still have to be replaced on time every year.
The motion was carried.
