RENFREW COUNTY — The Ontario government is supporting anglers with a plan to sustain the fish populations in the Ottawa River.

The Fisheries Management Plan for the Ottawa River will guide how the fishery is managed in the Ottawa River, from the north shores of Lake Temiskaming to the south-east end of Lac Dollard des Ormeaux.

“The Ottawa River is a great place to fish. This plan will help ensure anglers will continue to enjoy its benefits,” said John Yakabuski, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry. “I’d like to thank the Ottawa River Advisory Council for their hard work, patience and expert advice to help us create a plan that will see this important fishery thrive and provide resources for generations of anglers to come.”

Fisheries management for the Ottawa River is a joint responsibility of Ontario and Quebec. The development of this plan was led by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, in co-operation with the Ottawa River Advisory Council, and with support from the Quebec Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks.

“The release of this plan shows a shared commitment by both provinces to work together to manage the Ottawa River fishery in a healthy, sustainable way,” said Minister Yakabuski.
