Forester’s Falls resident Harry Aswal organized a petition in order to bring issues regarding the state of roads and construction in Forester’s falls to the Township and new Candidates running for Council.

He said the petition currently as of publication has 70 resident signatures and 19 non-residents.

The County of Renfrew and the Township of Whitewater Region began the construction in August, in order to widen the road to accommodate a biking lane.

Councillor Daryl McLaughlin also presented a Notice of Motion to investigate the lack of legal parking in Forester’s Falls.

The municipal election is on October 24th.

The petition, available to sign at Annie’s Gas Bar in Forester’s Falls, reads so:

“Please sign this petition if you are concerned about the following issues which will be submitted to our local Candidates to address at the All Candidates Meeting in Westmeath and/or at any other venues where Candidates may appear.

We the undersigned from Foresters Falls and vicinity are concerned about the following as it supports tourism and safety in our township and around our community and wish to have these concerns addressed by the candidates for Council of the Whitewater Municipality

1       Parking on Foresters Falls Rd (our main street) needs to be clarified and supported for the following reasons: access to shopping and gas, access to the Library, Post Office and Ross Museum, parking at Trinity United church for funerals, Sunday services and Senior’s fitness classes. Many seniors count on the convenience store Annie’s Gas Bar and Convenience for staples, and several are unable to walk. Parking is required for special events at MC Motorcycle Club, Ross Museum and special community events.

2       Repairs on the Kohlsmith Rd.to the Queens Line need to be properly covered rather than a small patch here and another a few feet away from the first repair. This road is the access to the tourist attractions on the Grants Settlement Rd and the Ross Waste Disposal site. It is used by cyclists who are increasingly enjoying the many trails and safe roads available to them from Beachburg to Foresters Falls and surrounding area.

3       Walking path over the new bridge to Ball Park as local young children walk across to access the playground and ballpark. Local residents from across the bridge often walk across to shop or go to the Post Office. Library or just to visit neighbours.

4       Viewing Point for the “Falls. Foresters Falls was named due to an actual Falls just over and beyond the bridge. Yet visitors to the village ask about the location of the falls and attempt to see it from the bridge. Some attempt a dangerous access down the hill to see them. It is important that this feature receives recognition. The community would like to see some steps, or a lookout ramp built to access a viewing point of these historically important Falls. “
