WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — Dermy (Dermott) Calver, a former Renfrew County Warden, has passed away.
Mr. Calver, 90, also the former Reeve of the Village of Eganville, died last week at Caressant Care after a brief illness.
Born and raised in Maynooth, he first entered municipal politics in the 1970s, when he sat on village council.
Mr. Calver was elected Reeve in 1988 and Warden in 1993. He officially resigned his seat in 1994, over what he called a public whisper campaign against a proposed housing development by the Metis Association, which council was supporting.
When he wasn’t busy in politics, Mr. Calver founded D&S Calver Lumber with his son.
He is pre-deceased by his wife Leola, daughter Marnie Woolsey and son Donald. He is survived by three children, Paul Calver (Patty), Patrick (Linda) and Shawn (Gail.)
