RENFREW COUNTY (Renfrew) — On March 30, an officer with the Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a Fraud call at a local business, in the Town of Renfrew.
The investigation revealed that a customer used multiple fraudulent credit cards to make multiple large purchases totalling over $26,000.00. The Renfrew County Crime Unit assisted with this continuing investigation.
As a result of this continuing investigation Sean MacLeod, 36 years old of Ottawa, has been charged with two counts of Fraud over $5000.00 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada(CC), two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000.00 contrary to the CC, two counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to the CC, possession of over 30 grams dried Cannabis in public contrary to the Cannabis Act (CA), possession of Cannabis for the purpose of distributing contrary to CA and possession of Cannabis for the purpose of selling contrary to the CA.
The accused was released on an Undertaking to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Renfrew on June 17. The Renfrew OPP would like to remind the public to review their credit card statements and purchases and to report any purchases not done by the owner of the credit card.
