There’s a new way to recognize or remember a loved one at Renfrew Victoria Hospital. A new ‘Garden of Giving’, located in the main corridor adjacent to the emergency department, was unveiled on Tuesday, May 18.

“We wanted to offer another opportunity for donors to recognize loved ones either in memory or to honour someone special in a unique fashion. We previously had bricks that were engraved on the wall, but due to changes in infection control protocols, those are no longer allowed,” shared Patti Dillabough, RVH Foundation Executive Director.
Once the new option, a mosaic garden as an extension of the outdoor Healing Garden, was chosen, the Foundation wanted a local artist to create the artwork… which led them to contact Kathryn Spooner Bossy.
Bossy has been involved in previous projects at RVH including the creation of a piece for the chapel and a Tree of Lights card.

Bossy said that it was quite an honour to be asked. She wanted the piece to be whimsical, fun and help ‘pick up’ those who are feeling stressed. The mosaic background behind the stained-glass flowers is composed of Japanese cut paper in RVH shades of blue.

Bossy also noted that RVH is like a community. “These flowers represent the community in the hospital. That’s the feeling that I had… that I wanted something bright and cheerful because every time I’ve come here myself, with the kids or with my husband, we’ve always been treated so well. We’re extremely fortunate to have this hospital in our community.”

“This is an absolutely beautiful addition to our main corridor. Many people will have an opportunity to enjoy it as they walk by,” stated Julia Boudreau, CEO.

The Garden of Giving plaques, which are engraved and mounted on the work inside a protective shadow box, are at a cost of $500 per plaque. It is a specific ask similar to the outdoor water feature where folks can buy a stone for $1,000. More details can be found on the RVH Foundation website at www.rvhfoundation.com or by calling the Foundation office at 613-432-4851 ext. 263
