WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — A public meeting was held last night at the Council meeting for the Township of Whitewater Region. The public meeting was about the Zoning By-law Amendment to modify and add applicable provisions to the Westmeath and Ross Zoning By-law’s No. 98-13 and 23-92.
The changes would permit the temporary use of one recreational vehicle on vacant properties. Recreational vehicles pertains to travel/tent trailers and motor home which are located within the Rural (RU), Waterfront Vicinity (WV) and Limited Service Residential (LSR) Zones. This is provided they also meet all other applicable policies of the by-laws and are licensed by the municipality.
Another change which would be permitted is the addition of accessory buildings or structures such as sunrooms, decks and porches. They would need to be attached to any trailer and cannot exceed the ground floor area of the trailer, accessory buildings or structures. This includes a shed not exceeding 11.25 square metres.
Ivan Burton, Planner/Economic Development Officer for the Township, stated Council heard a delegation from Mr. White, who had been requested to remove his recreational vehicle from his vacant property, because the local Zoning By-law prohibited human habitation within said vehicles.
At this meeting, Mr. White said he was seeking a solution to permit seasonal recreational vehicles over the summer months. Mr. White also made Council aware there are many other recreational vehicles being used seasonally throughout the Township.
“Our goal is to limit [people to] one recreational vehicle per property,” said Mr. Burton.
According to documentation, the Town Treasurer, Fire Chief, Public Works Foreman, Environmental Services Superintendent, Chief Building Official, Bell Canada, Enbridge Gas Distribution and Ontario Power Generation had no comments or concerns with the proposed application.
Council will review and consider the comments made at the public meeting held on July 3 and Mr. Burton is to forward a report, including analysis and recommendation, to Council on July 17.
