PEMBROKE — The Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) recently hosted its annual ‘Golf Fore Kids’ tournament at the Oaks of Cobden. A cross section of businesses and District staff enjoyed 18 holes, lunch and dinner and competed for a variety of prizes. Together, their efforts helped raise over $12,553.87 for the RCDSB Student Support Fund (SSF).
“To the many generous golfers and corporate partners – especially Scotiabank – I want to extend my sincerest appreciation for the support you continue to show,” said RCDSB Chair Wendy Hewitt. “Your contributions will ensure that students facing financial barriers will have every opportunity to participate fully in the upcoming school year experience.”
The SSF provides mini-grants to students who are facing financial limitations. Applications are submitted by the respective school principal and do not identify the student(s) by name. The amounts are $250 for an individual or $500 for siblings. They are aimed at helping students overcome financial barriers and allow them to fully participate in extra-curricular activities and trips, access sports and music equipment and pay for college and university applications. To date, the SSF has distributed over $20,000 to students in need across our District.
As a registered charity, the SSF is managed by a committee of Board staff and community members. There is a minimum of one elementary and one secondary principal or vice principal, one of which acts as the committee Co-chair.
“I also wish to highlight the work of District staff who helped coordinate and plan this event. We owe a debt of gratitude to the dedicated team of volunteers and committee members who worked to make this another successful tournament,” concluded Ms. Hewitt.
