WESTMEATH – A report advised the Council of the Township of Whitewater Region to award tender to companies to repair sections of Westmeath’s Grace Street.

The two recommendations were to:

“Approve the award of tender 2021-16 Rehabilitation of Grace Street to B.R. Fulton Construction Ltd. at a cost of $264,558.88 inclusive of non-refundable H.S.T.; and

Approve the single-source award of construction supervision and construction management to Jp2g Consultants Inc. (Jp2g) at a cost of $15,963.09 inclusive of non-refundable H.S.T.”

Public Works Manager Lane Cleroux presented the report.

“It’s great progress.” Councillor Nicholson said, but remarked about the County of Renfrew’s lack of involvement.

“I thought County paid for it. They just gave us permission to pay money for their road. Good.” He said sarcastically, which the mayor echoed.

He asked if the use of concrete to seal the sidewalk was avoided for financial purposes.

‘it’s very rare to seal the sidewalks.” Cleroux said.

Mayor Moore asked about the traffic equipment to installed there, and its maintenance requirements.

“If it does fail or if it needs maintenance, it’s solar based so it probably lasts five years.” Cleroux said.

The motion was carried.
