WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — A change from last year, the Cobden Recreation Association (CRA) hosted a Halloween Fall Festival on Saturday. Over 50 people came out in costume to enjoy the day and festivities, with the biggest attraction being the pumpkin weighing 343 pounds and the large green bean laying against it. They were grown by Raymond Eckford and everyone enjoyed trying to guess the pumpkin’s weight.
“Hello! How are you today,” and fun, spooky warnings could be heard from Julie Hennessy, who was a mad scientist in her laboratory making potions where you had to find eyeballs as a part of the scavenger hunt. Other activities included a pumpkin contest, gourd tic tac toe, pumpkin ring toss, Pumpkin Putt, a Halloween photo area with Heather Corrigan and Pin the Tail on the Cat.
The scavenger hunt consisted of 10 clues which led you around the park and there was a checklist you had to turn in completed before getting your Halloween treat bag from Daphne Hennessy. The winner of the best decorated or carved pumpkin contest was Mrs. Afelskie and Mrs. Shields classes from Cobden and District Public School.
